The past two years have been eventful for Robinson, a Survey & Mapping / Engineering Services firm, that is over 75 years young. Eventful – in terms of both achievements and challenges. A change in ownership brought new vitality, expansion and a broader range of services. With this expansion came the challenges of integration of new employees, marketing their knowledge and experience and winning the necessary certifications to assure fair representation in the marketplace, so that this firm with a rich history could be transformed and enabled to strive to meet it’s potential.
Over the course of 2010 and 2011, Carlos A. Medina became majority (presently 80%) owner of Robinson. In 2011 he established our new MEP Design / Construction Management Services Division. The new team members brought with them 35 years of experience in MEP Design and Construction Administration, gained through participation in numerous, diverse projects throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Their project history includes: correctional facilities, offices, schools, hospitals, senior housing, research facilities, transportation, parks and utilities. Since then, the new division has launched or completed sufficient projects, for Robinson to achieve Pre-qualification by Division of Property Management & Construction of the State of New Jersey within the new disciplines. Among these projects were: Library Renovations at Warren County Community College, Washington, NJ Construction Management, Value Engineering and Inspection Services for 14th Street Viaduct, Hoboken, NJ Meadowview Campus Detention Center, Secaucus, NJ Fire Prevention System Design, Construction Management Services, and others During those years our firm was also determined to meet all requirements to be certified as a DBE in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and certified as an MBE by both New York State and New York City.
Also during this time, the oldest branch of the company, the Photogrammetric Mapping and Survey Division has won the following noteworthy projects for the Port Authority of NY & NJ: John F. Kennedy International Airport Obstruction Study & Mapping – Robinson won this contract as Prime against much larger competitors, a great accomplishment for S/MBE Enterprise. Newark-Liberty International Airport Obstruction Study & Mapping – Robinson earned an “Excellent” rating from the Port Authority for the work on Newark-Liberty Goethals Bridge Mapping – Robinson was awarded this very high profile project (the eventual bridge replacement would exceed $1 billion), having solidly proven to be effective and capable, on the basis of past performance of multiple efforts for Port Authority.
